The Pacuare River is world famous for rafting as it’s a combo of amazing whitewater, spectacular scenery and incredible wildlife. This river trip is considered a must do for many adventurers. The logisitcs of a Pacuare rafting trip fit in very well with Rio Vista Lodge.
Logistics: Hiking West, Caribbean to the Pacific The rafts will meet you at the Pacuare River cable cart crossing, as listed in the FarOut app. From here, the river guides will give you PFDs and helmets and raft downstream a short distance to Rio Vista Lodge. You’ll spend the night and then the next day, have breakfast and raft through the world-famous Pacuare Gorge. At takeout, you’ll be driven to your next Camino accommodation or wherever you wish to go on the trail.
Logistics: Hiking East, Pacific to the Caribbean This direction flows more naturally for a rafting trip as the river flows towards the Caribbean as well. With the trip meeting point near Tres Equis, just 1.1 KM from CabaƱas el Paso del Viento, you’ll meet your guides and then raft to Rio Vista Lodge. After spending the night, you’ll then raft through the Pacuare Gorge and finish the rafting trip in Siquirres. From here you can arrange for the rafting company to drive you the 9 km back to the trail putting you at Casa Yolanda or Casa Mireya. Alternatively, you can walk to Hotel Pacuare which is located in Siquirres near the rafting takeout and then figure out the ten minute cab to the trail the next morning. If you wish to walk, it is possible to avoid approximately half of highway 32, which is very busy. An important consideration, is if you are hiking this direction and raft the Pacuare you are skipping past the indigenous section, meaning you do not need to hire the required guide.
